Lucija Pigl is a Croatian documentary filmmaker based in London, whose work explores people, creativity and identity.
Drawn to observational documentary and portrait led filmmaking, her practice focuses on the details of everyday life: gestures, routines, conversations and quiet moments that can reveal something unexpected about a person. She is particularly interested in creative people, the anthropology of work, and what makes us who we are. Her films take time to observe, finding meaning in ordinary moments and in the people who dedicate themselves to what they do.
Her filmmaking journey began in Croatia, where she discovered filmmaking as a teenager through local community workshops. Over the past decade, she has developed an independent practice centred on directing, alongside producing, cinematography and editing. Working across a range of subjects, formats and production environments, this hands on experience has allowed her to remain closely involved throughout the filmmaking process, from developing ideas and building relationships with contributors to shooting and editing.
Alongside commissioned and independent projects, she creates and publishes documentary and portrait led films online through Pluviofilm, including
Artists Actuality, an ongoing series exploring the lives and practices of artists.
Lucija also works in film and HETV production accounting, giving her a practical understanding of the organisational, financial and logistical realities of production, as well as insight into the less visible work involved in bringing creative projects to life.
She holds a BA in Film Studies from Bangor University and an MA in Promotional Media from Goldsmiths, University of London.
